The Mall of America has launched a new text messaging service that will send customers up-to-the-minute notices of events happening in the mall.
The service, which is provided by Nanuet, N.Y.-based MallCall International, will also send out text messages with store promotions and coupons that can be used in the mall.
"We’re thrilled to be the first in the country to give our customers access to this technology," said Maureen Bausch, executive vice president of business development at the 4.2 million-square-foot retail center in Bloomington. "We hope this service will be an added value to the overall Mall of America experience."
To sign up for the service, mall visitors will have the option to opt-in by simply texting the provided number located above skyway-level entrances in the East and West parking ramps. The number will also be listed on the mall's Web site.
Participants will only receive text messages during Mall business hours for that day. After the Mall closes, the text messages come to an end. Customers can opt-out at any time by texting "stop."
Tweets today include messages promoting movies being shown at the Mall of America Theatres, one announcing a book signing scheduled for Saturday with clothing designer and author Christian Siriano and one announcing a free gift for the first 100 customers to visit a certain hair care products retailer in the mall.
